Quercetin is a bioflavonoid demonstrating the widest range of biological activities of any single dietary polyphenol. Its anti-inflammatory mechanism involves inhibition of PI3K, NF-κB, and AP-1 transcription factors, as well as stabilisation of mast cell membranes to reduce histamine secretion — making it effective for both inflammatory and allergic conditions. Emerging senolytic research identifies quercetin as capable of selective apoptosis induction in senescent cells, contributing to the first clinically demonstrated senolytic combination (quercetin + dasatinib) studied at Mayo Clinic. Additionally, quercetin activates AMPK and sirtuin pathways, chelates transition metals that catalyse hydroxyl radical formation, and acts as a zinc ionophore facilitating intracellular zinc delivery.
